THE “MAGIC LANTERN” SLIDE SHOW

5 Center - pre 1903In 2008 I purchased ninety-seven 3” x 4” glass photographic slides from a Belfast, ME antique dealer. They are all Middlefield connected and appear to date from about 1885 to 1925. The slides run the gamut of scenes of Factory Village to local family reunions. Many are marked but some need identification.

The wooden box that the glass plates were stored in was marked “Property of Rev. David Clark”. Rev. John Brittan Clark was a famous summer resident from 1904 to his death in 1944. He owned the 100-acre David Mack property. I believe John Clark took some of these photographs as his son David was born in 1900. David died in 1964 and both are buried in the Middlefield Center Cemetery. The property was sold to Wayne and Priscilla Suriner in 1952

I have maintained the numbering on the plates. Four were unmarked so they are numbered 196–199 to differentiate them. There are 13 missing photographs - if the numbering sequence was complete.

The collection is displayed in five panels of 20 slides each. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-size image.
